[Special to the Sentinel] A "thank you" letter from four sons—and a father's reflections

Dear Dad,

I was thinking on the way home from our bowling the other night what a good time it had been, and then I began to reflect on how good it has always been. I don't know how any son could love his father more than I do, and I have always felt that love in return

I've often thought about the love we feel together. It goes way beyond human attachment. It has strong elements of the divine Love—constancy, gentleness, goodness. Christian Science has helped us see each other as God's expression and to love and appreciate the good qualities in each other. We never had much time for faultfinding, did we? My love and affection for you, along with your mother's, is just a hint of the deep love our Father-Mother God has for each of us.

...I can remember long ago waiting at the window for you to come home from work so we could roughhouse together. And rushing home from a Friday night football game so you could tell me how I played. And working together on the lawn raking leaves. It really didn't matter what we did, I just enjoyed doing it with you!
