For over sixty years Christian Science has been everything to me. My mother became a student in 1908 after witnessing an instantaneous healing of a badly sprained ankle. This healing made such an impression on her that she purchased a copy of the textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, the same day, and the following Sunday enrolled my brother and me in the Christian Science Sunday School.

A few weeks later when my father and I were walking in the country, I stepped in a hornets' nest and was stung in fourteen places. To take my thought from the experience, he said, "You go to the Christian Science Sunday School. Why don't you put into practice what you learn there?" When we returned to the cottage, Mother read to me from Science and Health, and in an hour I was entirely free.
