It is with a deep sense of gratitude that I write this testimony. I was enrolled in a Christian Science Sunday School when a young child. When I married, I let material thinking govern me. I didn't return to Christian Science until one of my children had impetigo. I tried some material remedies. When no relief was seen, I pulled out a Sentinel I had gotten at one time. I read it that day, and the healing began. In three days all evidence of the sores was gone.

About two years ago a daughter was trying to light the pilot light in the oven, when there was an explosion. She immediately had a friend, who was visiting with her, call a Christian Science practitioner for help, as she was unable to see. The pain and swelling disappeared in about two hours, and by the next day there was no evidence of a burn except for burned eyelashes, brows, and hair, and her sight was not impaired in any way.

An outstanding illustration of God's providing was in finding a home. The house my family and I were living in was to be moved from the lot, and I was served a notice to vacate by a certain date. Houses were very difficult to find at a rent I could afford. At this time I had every afternoon off from my place of employment for two weeks because of the Christmas holidays. I spent those afternoons in a Christian Science Reading Room in prayer and study to gain a better understanding of God. Mrs. Eddy says in Science and Health (p. 494), "Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need." Before the end of the first week I was introduced to a man who said he knew of a house that would be vacant the exact day I would need it. The rent was very reasonable. This house was near the school my younger daughter attended, so it wasn't even necessary to enroll her in another school.

I am grateful to God for His loving care and for class instruction from a consecrated teacher of Christian Science.

I am the daughter referred to in the testimony. When the oven exploded, there was also a large flash of fire, and I was thrown to the floor. When I talked to the practitioner, he gave me this statement from Science and Health to study (p. 393): "Have no fear that matter can ache, swell, and be inflamed as the result of a law of any kind, when it is self-evident that matter can have no pain nor inflammation." For the next two hours I struggled to see that it could be "self-evident" that pain was unreal. One thing I pondered was the Bible account of the three Hebrews in the fiery furnace. They emerged with not even the "smell of fire" on their clothes (Dan. 3:27). When I finally decided to rely on God alone for my well-being, and not on anything that might be considered soothing to a burn, the pain suddenly left. As quickly as it had come, it was gone!

The next morning there was some evidence of stiffening, but I denied that there could be any aftereffects to something that was never real in the first place. By midmorning I was completely free, and there was no evidence of the burn except for singed hair.

I am very grateful for practitioners, who are always ready to give prompt help, whatever the problem is and whenever we call. This healing made me think seriously about class instruction, which I have since had. I am grateful for it and for every other avenue provided by Mrs. Eddy for the growth of the Christian Science movement.
