Closeness to God
Christian Science stresses the healing, strengthening effect of feeling close to God. It teaches the scientific meaning of this relationship. This Science goes much deeper than merely asserting that God is a holy presence near at hand. It teaches the oneness, the inseparable unity, of God and man as divine Principle and its idea, as infinite Mind and its spiritual thoughts, or reflection.
Specifically using the singular verb is instead of the plural are to describe this indivisible relationship, Mary Baker Eddy writes in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, "Principle and its idea is one, and this one is God, omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent Being, and His reflection is man and the universe." Science and Health, pp. 465, 466;
Christ Jesus lived in constant, conscious unity with the Father Mind. This was the Christ-idea that illumined his thought, kept him well and strong, and empowered his healing work. He said, "He that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him." john 8:29;
