A psychiatrist once told me that I did not believe in the intangible
A psychiatrist once told me that I did not believe in the intangible. This started my search for God and led me to Christian Science. Because I found this religion had the answers to questions which, until now, had seemed unanswerable, I knew I must learn about it. The need to join the church followed as I felt church participation would help me better understand Christian Science. Before this step was accessible, it was necessary that I give up smoking and drinking. This was accomplished through the healing works of this religion. I had had a fear of becoming dependent on drinking for peace of mind, and was especially grateful for this healing. Now I could see that this change had not been based on an unreasonable demand to give up something, but had been a step on my way to finding real satisfaction and peace of mind.
Other healings continued throughout many years in our home. Some of these healings were those of so-called childhood diseases, high fevers, earaches, asthma, constipation, oak poisoning, and bee stings. One of the most revealing things to me was the proof, during these years, of how Christian Science meets our various needs, such as financial demands and protection under all types of circumstances, and gives us direction in making decisions.
However, with all these evidences of God's care, I still felt a great need for peace of mind. One day, in a state of extreme mental fear, I ran to my neighbors, who were Christian Scientists, and cried for help. They truly cared for and comforted me with the truth, until I was able to return home. I did, however, call my sister, a student of Christian Science, who came to continue to help me. When the fear seemed to be overwhelming, she calmly and quietly said the Lord's Prayer aloud. While she was saying the prayer, I could feel my thought lifting to feel God's presence.
