My first introduction to Christian Science came not because I...
My first introduction to Christian Science came not because I was looking for a healing for myself but for someone else. A relative who came to my home from the Midwest spoke to me of Christian Science, and it aroused a deep interest. It was several weeks later before I had nerve enough to walk into a Christian Science Reading Room to buy a copy of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy.
The attendant kindly handed me the book and said, "Read it with an open mind. I'm sure you will find your answer." Once I had the book, I read continuously.
To me, it was a revelation. I knew it was the truth. I remember saying to myself, "If no one else in all the world believes this, I do." Just like that came the answer, "Demonstrate it." I sat there thinking about this and wondering how I would do that. Then it came to me that I had an asthmatic and hay fever condition. I'd had this condition for seven years and had spent much money on tests. I took daily medication. I was told that this condition was incurable, and I had accepted this.
