LIFE IN THE ACADEMIC COMMUNITY

How to Be a Problem-solver on Campus

Christian Science is a problem-solving religion. Through a spiritual understanding of the Science of Spirit, God, we can successfully meet campus challenges. Though questions range from academic to athletic, social to career-oriented, including physical, drug-related, and sexual problems, no situation is beyond the healing influence of God, divine Love.

How do we apply Christian Science in becoming effective problem-solvers on our campuses? Perhaps a Bible story will help illustrate the answer. Upon waking one morning, the servant of Elisha was terror-stricken to discover that an enemy army was encamped around Elisha and himself. Utterly dismayed as to what to do, he cried to the prophet for help. "Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them," II Kings 6:16; the prophet calmly replied. Then Elisha prayed that the eyes of his servant be opened to behold the total safety God afforded His children— the safety that Elisha understood already existed. The servant's eyes were opened to the glorious presence of God, good, and the enemy was thoroughly routed.

When faced with an army of problems on our campuses, do we react like the servant, or do we act like the prophet? Do we become part of the problem, or do we become part of the healing of the situation?
