Several years ago my first testimony appeared in the periodicals, telling of my mother's healing of cancer, before I was born and after doctors stated there was no hope. It also related my healing of a severe scalding when I was about two years old. The doctor had said I could not live out the day.

We did not live where there was a Church of Christ, Scientist, until I was almost twenty, but when I was old enough, my grand–parents, who visited us, showed me how to study the Lesson–Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly, and I recall making notes of questions to ask them. My father was bitterly opposed to Christian Science, but at a time of severe trial he picked up a copy of The Christian Science Journal from the free distribution rack at a railroad station and was helped. Later he became an active church member.

Through the years of my own growing up and then of raising a family of three children, the study of Christian Science has given me much to be grateful for. During the depression years there were times when we did not know where the next meal was coming from, but by our trusting God there always was an answer, even though sometimes it actually was only one meal at a time that was taken care of—manna for the day. Opportunities to work for an hour or a day came as I expressed humility and willingness to be of service in capacities other than the field for which I was educated. Within a few months I was employed full time in a good position.
