Mary Baker Eddy writes in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures...

Mary Baker Eddy writes in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, "The very circumstance, which your suffering sense deems wrathful and afflictive, Love can make an angel entertained unawares" (p. 574). At one time when I was unhappy about a human relationship problem, I was taken to see a Christian Science practitioner. Before this I had attended an orthodox church and knew nothing of Christian Science. The help I received from the talk with the practitioner opened up a new world to me.

Eight years ago our youngest child was born with a clubfoot. The doctor I consulted sent us to a medical institution for cripple care, where I was shown how to manipulate my son's foot. Two nurses came each week to help him perform exercises. I was told that when he started to walk he would to wear a special boot for several years, and that this treatment would probably last until he was five years old. This seemed an unbearably long time to me. "How could my baby be in such a condition for so long?" I wondered. After I had continued the therapeutic treatment for two months, I decided to give it up and rely entirely upon Christian Science for healing. I went to see the same practitioner I had seen before.

Together we prayed about the condition, and I saw the need to be grateful for God's perfect creation which, of course, included our small son. It came very clearly to me to turn away from the physical condition and concentrate my thoughts on the other children in our family who were also needing my care. This unselfed love for others brought about our son's healing. His foot became completely normal, and by the time he was five he was playing football regularly. Now each week he plays for his club team.
