Discord Is Misunderstanding

Often a disagreement between persons is found to arise from some misunderstanding. When the truth is learned and applied, the misunderstanding is resolved, and harmony between those concerned is restored. What appeared as a clash of opinions may have been only a mistaken interpretation of the facts in the case by one or both parties. When conflicting viewpoints are brought into true focus, conflict disappears.

This approach is applicable not only to personal disagreements but to discord in all its forms. We can see illness, sin, lack, and even death as the result of misunderstanding, or of not understanding, the truth of being.

When Jesus encountered the infirm man at the pool of Bethesda, he found him laboring under the delusions that he had to have someone to carry him to the poolside and that immersion in the water at a certain moment would cure his ills. Jesus, through the clarity of his understanding of the Christ, or perfect manhood, was able to release the man from the limited concept of himself that stood in the way of his healing. The Master commanded him, "Rise, take up thy bed, and walk." "And immediately," we are told, "the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked."^{John 5:8, 9;}
