The Perfect Model
A Christian Scientist was asked, "Why do you say evil is unreal, when it is all about us? Do you expect it to go away by ignoring it?"
The Scientist assured his questioner that he did not ignore evil or turn his back on it. He explained that evil is overcome and destroyed by facing it courageously and knowing, despite contrary evidence, that evil is unreal and powerless because God, good, is All.
Christ Jesus knew and proved this. He did not accept the evidence of the material senses as real. He knew that matter—the evidence of material belief—is not the truth of real being. He knew and taught that God—infinite Spirit, immortal Life—is man's Father. Man, therefore, is spiritual and immortal. His understanding of man's true being as God's son enabled Jesus to heal sickness and sin and overcome death. He insisted, "It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life." John 6:63;
