Denying Matter and Healing Disease .

Christian Scientists, understanding God's allness, His omnipotence and omnipresence, and the nothingness of everything unlike Him, deny the reality of matter and thereby are being regenerated and healed. It is practical and beneficial for men to deny matter's existence and power, even while they are concerned with their physiques and involved in physical activities. As each one realizes that God, Spirit, is all-powerful and ever present, he comes to see there is no reality in the claim that matter can control or permanently disorder his life.

If one turns to God for healing and at the same time seeks healing from drugs, medical surgery, mental manipulation, or any matter-based means, he is not placing his full reliance upon God. The true Christian seeks to obey the First Commandment, "Thou shalt have no other gods before me." Ex. 20:3; He will find the way to lasting restoration and happiness as he learns to deny matter's claims and look only to infinite Spirit for harmony.

Generally, the world accepts the false belief that matter has the power to create and sustain life; but this does not make it true. The entire belief that life is material is an illusion presented by the so called mortal mind as material sensations. If one alternates his trust between matter and Spirit, it is much like operating a cooler and a heater in his house at the same time. Little effect results from either.
