Years ago I suffered from a hernia
Years ago I suffered from a hernia. I did very little prayerful work for this ailment, and I got positively no results whatsoever.
So, in the year 1947, I talked it over with a friend, who knew I was a student of Christian Science, although he was not interested. He told me that a friend of his had had a similar condition corrected by a surgical operation. That pleased me very greatly. When I came home that evening, I was very happy; I was going to have the hernia corrected by material means.
Then it came strongly to my thought that I had not been to a doctor or a surgeon for so many years that I did not know anyone to go to. And, as I stood there thinking this over, I became conscious of the power and presence of God's divine Love. I then said to myself, If you have this condition corrected by a surgical operation, you might in other instances desert the Christ, Truth, for material means of healing. Then you could get into a condition worse than before you came into Christian Science.
