Health Care
"The truth is," wrote Harold M. Schmeck, Jr., in the New York Times, no one really wants health care at all; what everyone wants is health." New York Times, July 16, 1971;
Christ Jesus offered the world a health plan that is both preventive and curative, and showed how mankind can lay the foundations of perfect, enduring health. And Mary Baker Eddy showed, through her discovery of Christian Science, the method of healing practiced by the Master with such success nearly two thousand years ago. She proved that now, as then, the most effective method of health care is spiritual, not material. She made her discovery available to the world.
Mrs. Eddy's own healing of serious injury came about as she read the Bible account of Christ Jesus' healing of the palsied man. This man's friends had brought him on a bed to the much-talked-of healer. The Master applied no material remedy, but, recognizing the man's spiritual need, he told him, "Son, be of good cheer; thy sins be forgiven thee." Then he added, "Arise, take up thy bed, and go unto thine house." Matt. 9:2, 6; Healed, the man obeyed.
