Christ's Timely Appearing

Christmas is for many people a precious reminder of the moment when, through Christian Science, the first glimpse of the Christ, the spiritual idea of God, came to them and they were reborn. Whatever the time of year this occurred, it was a moment of enlightenment and great joy when divine Truth was recognized to be a practical saving power in human affairs. In retrospect they recognize it as a vital turning point in their experience, when they began to realize that substance and intelligence are not in matter but in Spirit, and that God, good, is all power, all presence, all real being.

Some of these people were already wise in their disenchantment with matter and rebellion against its claims to have power for good or evil over God's universe and man. At the time of Christ's appearing to them, they were receptive. Like the Magi and watchful shepherds, they were seeking for the deeper, more spiritual wisdom that it brought. Some were weary of physical suffering, longing for comfort, and through this expression of God's grace they found satisfaction. Others, despite their traditional beliefs and prejudices, were awakened to the divine nature of real being even against their will and human judgment. Reason and demonstration prevailed over the evidence of physical sense, and with humility and integrity they admitted, albeit reluctantly, the spiritual idea.

Now, as all these individuals look back upon the advent of divine Truth in their consciousness, they can surely recognize that for them the appearing was timely, governed by intelligence, and that it was the greatest of all the blessings they have ever known. It has given them peace, health, harmony, strength, and satisfaction in the assurance that they have the means of solving not only their own but all the problems of humanity.
