As a student of Christian Science, I have had many proofs of God's power to heal. I wish to relate one that, for me, was the greatest, because despite having been acquainted with this religion for many years, only when I passed through this experience can I say that I found God.

After I had gone away from the path of this Science, I suddenly found myself overcome by a physical disorder that, according to medical theory, was a serious abdominal condition, which could be treated only by surgical means. I was operated on three times. After having treatment I was operated on again two years later. Some months later the condition manifested itself again, this time in the form of a growth.

The surgeon who knew the whole case was very concerned, saying that I should stay in bed for fifteen days under medication and afterward he would see what course he would take.

I arrived home very disillusioned and without any hope of salvation. I went to bed and cried a great deal; then I placed everything in God's hands. I admitted that I had faith in God but lacked understanding of God, and that I had not used the small understanding I did have. I prayed, asking to be guided. Then, like a flash of lightning, there came the thought, "If you know the way, why do you go away from it?" I arose at once, and from the literature on Science I had, I picked up a copy of The Herald of Christian Science and read an article bringing out the thought that all is well with man under the divine government. It was as if I had awakened from a dream. I felt well and safe, that everything was going well with me because God was my Life, my health, my All. I remained out of bed and decided not to take any more medicine and to attend the services in a Church of Christ, Scientist.

At the end of the fifteen days, I went to the doctor, who was greatly astonished to find that the growth had disappeared. It was hard for him to be convinced, and he read and reread my clinical history. Then he said, "This is amazing. I myself cannot believe it, but it is so. You are completely healed. Forget about doctors and medicine for a long time, and in your clinical history I am going to write in very large letters: A GOOD STATE OF HEALTH."

There are no words with which to express the gratitude I felt at that moment. Then I remembered the third verse of Hymn No. 330 in the Christian Science Hymnal,

Perverse and foolish oft I strayed,
But yet in love He sought me,
And on His shoulder gently laid,
And home, rejoicing, brought me.

This healing took place more than sixteen years ago, and the diseased condition has never manifested itself again.

Another healing I had in more recent years was that of a bad burn when a pan of boiling oil was overturned on my hands. I felt overcome by a great sense of fear. By phone my daughter asked a Christian Science practitioner for treatment for me. My hands had become stiff, and I could not move my fingers. On the following day I could use them, and within a week they all had new skin. The most wonderful thing is that no scar remained, as if nothing had happened, and in spiritual fact nothing had, since in the kingdom of God there are no accidents.

I am grateful to God, for Christ Jesus, for Mary Baker Eddy, for the practitioner from whom I asked help and who is always ready to extend help to me, for all the practitioners of the world who with much love are working for humanity, and for the opportunity we, the members of The Mother Church, have to take part in this great Cause.
