Healing—A Matter of Law

When it is applied, the law of God heals quickly and decisively.

God is Mind, and His law is divinely mental. The mental effort we put forth to obey the "thou shalt nots" of the Ten Commandments actively expresses the law of Mind. Whether we are having "no other gods before me" [the one God], Ex. 20:3; keeping the Sabbath holy, refraining from committing adultery, from bearing false witness, or from coveting, our obedience to the law is a matter of mental self-government. And this self-government expresses in a human way that which is far above the human sense of self—man's true, spiritual identity as the idea of the divine Mind.

That is what the application of God's law is for: to express man's identity as Mind's idea. One does not apply the law as a matter of technique. One does not learn to apply it in the way that he learns to follow rules for repairing an engine or a recipe for baking a cake. God's law is the law of our very existence. We can apply it only as we come to understand that God is our Life, our Mind, our Soul—that there is no real living, no consciousness, no real sense of selfhood except in living, thinking, and feeling in obedience to divine law.
