Assurance of God's Nearness

The Psalmist spoke to God as to an infinite presence. He said, "Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence?" Ps. 139:7, 9, 10; And he added, "If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea; even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me."

Paul, also, felt surrounded, protected, sustained, by the all-presence of God, divine Love. He said to the Athenians, "For in him we live, and move, and have our being." Acts 17:28;

What gave these great characters the assurance of God's nearness and love? Christian Science describes this higher perception as spiritual sense—something that is innate in mankind but that often requires awakening through a conscious effort to uplift and purify thought and action. Mrs. Eddy writes: "This awakening is the forever coming of Christ, the advanced appearing of Truth, which casts out error and heals the sick. This is the salvation which comes through God, the divine Principle, Love, as demonstrated by Jesus." Science and Health, p. 230;
