Nothing Can Separate Us from God

Man has no existence separate from Spirit, God. Coexistence with God is the law of man's being, ensuring his continuing harmony throughout eternity. Moreover, it is the perfect solace for all human ills, since the realization of perpetual at-one-ment with God, or good, destroys the belief in any possible separation from good.

In Christian Science, God is acknowledged as Mind, the only creative Principle of the universe. Although each idea in Mind's universe possesses distinct individuality and identity, it has no substance or being apart from its divine source, since the separation of Mind and its ideas or concepts is an impossibility. As a securely anchored vessel is incapable of drifting into danger, so man's unassailable oneness with the all-powerful, all-intelligent, all-loving God ensures his immunity from danger of any kind.

It is the belief in separation from God that is responsible for the discord and misery seemingly so prevalent in the world today. Believing themselves to be wholly mortal, or a mixture of material and spiritual elements embodying both good and evil traits, individuals are deprived of the peace, dominion, and security that an understanding of man's union with God affords. This sense of insecurity leaves them as they abandon the belief that they are human "revolving in an orbit of [their] own," to use Mrs. Eddy's words. Alluding to the Adam allegory in the second Biblical account of creation, she says, "The second record chronicles man as mutable and mortal,—as having broken away from Deity and as revolving in an orbit of his own." She then affirms, "Existence, separate from divinity, Science explains as impossible." Science and Health, p. 522;
