This Obesity Problem
The fact that so much is thought, said, and written about overeating, excess weight, dieting, exercise, should arrest the attention of thoughtful persons and challenge them to approach this subject more spiritually.
The Master, Christ Jesus, in his hillside sermon furnished the answer to the problem of appetite in simple terms: "Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness." Matt. 5:6; In the face of the spiritual clarity of this statement, why all the excessive appetite for material food?
What is true food? Is it not wisdom, pure love for all mankind, kindness? In short, does not eating to excess indicate that material food is not satisfying the deep-down hunger for spiritual things? The Master assures us we will be satisfied if our hunger and thirst is for this right, spiritual nourishment. He said, "They shall be filled."
