My family and I have received much help from our study of Christian Science—healings, guidance, and protection. One of the healings I experienced came about after considerable tribulation about nine years ago. There had been quite a slowdown in my business, and this bothered me to a point where my health was affected, including loss of weight, nervous disorder, weakness, and general fatigue. At the time, I was serving as First Reader in our newly recognized branch church. I would like to point out that in spite of the maladies mentioned God supported me in fulfilling this precious post. Although I was unable to eat regular meals, sometimes for several days at a time, the work at church went on.

In addition to the loving support given the office of Reader by the membership, I was having help from a Christian Science practitioner. The problem was not yielding. When the practitioner found it necessary to leave town for the summer, my health became worse. Treatment was then given by another practitioner, who, as I found out later, was also a teacher of Christian Science. It was during that summer that the urge to have class instruction came to me. My application for class was accepted for that year. This unforgettable experience strengthened me, even though the physical healing had not been complete. While praying earnestly to God one day to tell me what I must do to come out of this darkness, the answer came quite plainly: "This is the way, walk ye in it" (Isa. 30:21). I knew right then that God was indeed guiding my every faltering step. From that point on, progress was evident. My appetite returned, fear lessened, courage grew, and the beautiful knowledge of just what Christian Science could do for me when I truly listen for His voice came to me clearly.

I finished my term as Reader with the power of God in evidence and later served on the executive board and as Assistant Committee on Publication.
