Readjusting the Balance for God

If a healing in Christian Science seems protracted, it is not because God's healing law is dilatory, partial, or temporarily inoperative. Often it is because of undetected or unhandled suggestions of evil, or animal magnetism, latent in consciousness. Since animal magnetism operates mainly through deception, fear, or limitation, let us consider how its modus operandi can be handled in Christian Science through mental and spiritual readjustment.

Christian Science teaches that because God is infinite Mind, or Spirit, and man is His likeness, existence must really be wholly mental and spiritual. It follows that to heal through Christian Science, one's state of thought is of primary importance, for success in healing is commensurate with one's ability to let truth outweigh error in consciousness. By scientifically purifying thought one can progressively demonstrate the ever-present omnipotence of God, good, and the consequent nothingness and powerlessness of evil.

Christian Science unmasks animal magnetism and shows that error's chief stock-in-trade is pretense. Error parades as matter, but it is nothing more than illusion, a false mental concept. Its claim to existence in matter is but a precarious shift for remaining undetected, unrecognized. It is "that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world."^{Rev. 12:9;} It thrives on indifference, apathy, and procrastination, and would often deceive one into accepting it as harmless, or as a normal part of one's being.
