Although I was brought up in a Christian home, attended church regularly, and participated in the church activities, I never felt satisfied with my religion. I kept searching and attended churches of various denominations. Then I was given a copy of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. The little reading I did was satisfying to me, although there was a great deal I did not understand at first.

At the time, I was having a problem with my ear, so much so that my hearing was impaired. I was going to an ear specialist, but the condition had not improved. It never occurred to me to apply Christian Science for this healing. I seemed to be interested only in satisfying my desire for a new religion. I read over and over Mrs. Eddy's first sentence in the Preface to Science and Health (p. vii): "To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, to-day is big with blessings."

Then I learned there was to be a Christian Science lecture in a nearby branch church. I attended the lecture with much anticipation of the good to be received. While I was listening to the lecturer, straining to hear, I heard him say the already, to me, well-loved words: "To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, to-day is big with blessings." My ear suddenly opened, and I could hear perfectly and clearly. I have never had a recurrence of the problem. I had an appointment with the ear specialist the next day. His examination brought forth the statement, "Something has really removed the obstruction!"
