House on a Rock
What of one who despairingly feels he has made irrevocable mistakes, that he has built on sand and must therefore continue in confusion and suffering? Is there hope for him?
Indeed there is! At any moment he can turn from materiality and wrongdoing and prayerfully avail himself of the fresh opportunity divine Love constantly gives everyone to hear Christ Jesus' teachings and build upon the Rock, Truth. Past mistakes, repented of, can be corrected; wiped out by Truth, they cannot further torment. One need never listen to the lie that evil is, or ever has been, real and more powerful than good. Divine Love calls, "Look forward, not back! Forsake material ways; take fast hold of good, for good alone is real."
Mrs. Eddy writes in the textbook, Science and Health: "Vibrating like a pendulum between sin and the hope of forgiveness,—selfishness and sensuality causing constant retrogression,—our moral progress will be slow. Waking to Christ's demand, mortals experience suffering. This causes them, even as drowning men, to make vigorous efforts to save themselves; and through Christ's precious love these efforts are crowned with success." Science and Health, p. 22;
