There is a God, but I'm not sure I can reach Him...

"There is a God, but I'm not sure I can reach Him. He can help me, but I'm not sure that He will." These were my thoughts the summer before a friend told me about Christian Science. After I had been reading Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy for a month, these questions were answered for me one evening.

Our two-year-old daughter and I were shopping in a department store when she tripped and fell against an open drawer. The corner of the drawer cut a deep gash between her eye and her eyebrow. The injury frightened her and the store employees. The manager insisted that he drive us to the nearest hospital, but I thanked him and asked for someone to call the number of a Christian Science practitioner so that I could talk with her.

I told the practitioner what had happened and asked for treatment through prayer. The heavy bleeding stopped completely by the time I finished the call. Many store people had gathered in the manager's office with us, and they were astounded at the results of the phone call. Christian Science was so new to me that I did not know how the practitioner worked, but I was sure God had answered our prayer. The wound healed in four days. This was the first of many healings that have taken place in our family. It was the beginning of my study of a workable religion.
