Weight and Truthfulness
Chemicals taken for the purpose of satisfying a desire for certain foods without actually providing the nourishment they supply often drive the desire underground. The result is an unconscious overindulgence in other foods. This hints that we have to face our problems, not evade them.
God is Truth, and man is the idea or reflection of God. Therefore our demonstration of the power of God in our lives demands truthfulness. Wherever we deviate in our thinking and living from truthfulness, we in a sense worship error rather than Truth. In so doing we fail to put into practice the powerful attributes of divine Truth.
Overweight or underweight conditions usually imply physical or emotional problems. But some very healthy and well-adjusted people disregard the demands of fashion and are happy though hefty. And a glance at some of the art of years ago tells us that the stick figure was not always the standard of beauty. The question of how much I should weigh, then, comes down to one of honesty with oneself. Am I trying to be myself or am I trying to be what others think is fashionable? Am I facing my problems, or am I evading them?
