In thirty-one years of living Christian Science, the clearest, quickest healings have been those requiring immediate attention.
Our twenty-month-old son fell and cut his face deeply under the eye. Friends felt stitches were in order. My husband and I were confident that God could heal our son and stitches were not necessary, although the cut lay wide open. The minute I saw the baby I said mentally, "No, such a thing cannot be. God's child is perfect now and is protected now. The loving Father does not allow accidents to befall His children."
Lines from the Bible and Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, which were in that week's Bible Lesson in the Christian Science Quarterly, came to my thought constantly. The Word of God was present with us, and I felt the healing power of the Word and understood the Comforter more than ever before. There was no argument involved. I knew that the healing had already taken place. Christ Jesus' words filled my thought: "Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me. And I knew that thou hearest me always" (John 11:41, 42). I knew that "adhesion, cohesion, and attraction are properties of Mind," as Mrs. Eddy writes (Science and Health, p. 124). I also used the statement, "What God cannot do, man need not attempt" (ibid., p. 231). In a few hours the swelling was gone and the wound closed. There has been no scar from the injury.
