The words in this issue are related to the Lesson-Sermon in the CHRISTIAN SCIENCE QUARTERLY designated to be read in Christian Science churches on May 17, 1970.
Then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory
(I Cor. 15:54)
The reference is to Isaiah 25:8, "He will swallow up death in victory." It may be noted that in the Old Testament passage, the phrase rendered "in victory" in our Common Version can also mean "for ever." Hence the rendering of Isaiah 25:8 in the Revised Standard Version, "He will swallow up death for ever," or, as Moffatt puts it, "Displacing death for evermore."
