I was reared in a Christian Science home and attended Sunday School as a child. I realized after the passing of my parents that I had been protected from many temptations by my mother's prayers for protection and guidance, as she was a consecrated Christian Science practitioner.

I have had quick healings of pain, nausea, and severe headaches. One Wednesday evening when I attended a testimony meeting in a branch church, I had such a severe headache that I could hardly sit there. "Be still, and know that I am God" (Ps. 46:10) was part of the Scripture reading. Accepting and understanding something of the truth contained in this statement brought a permanent healing. I have had no recurrence of such a painful attack. Subsequently, if a suggestion of headache came, I quickly refused to accept it.

While I was on a vacation, symptoms of influenza hit me so hard that I immediately phoned a practitioner. She said, "There is only one consciousness and in that consciousness, which is God, there is no sense of irritation or congestion. Only good is your consciousness." I accepted this truth and went away from the telephone absolutely well. Later that day I took a fishing trip for several hours up a river in our boat, although the weather was windy and cold.
