"Children should obey their parents"
The author of the letter to the Ephesians writes, "Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right."Eph. 6:1; Many a parent, agreeing heartily, has sighed and added, "If only they would!"
The opinion is widely held that discipline of children was formerly too strict and based largely on fear. Reaction set in, until today many have relaxed their standards in hopes of giving the child freedom to develop along his own lines. Many other parents, too apathetic or too fearful of alienating their children, have not insisted on obedience. As a result, on every side there are protests against undisciplined behavior at home and in the community.
Despite shifting theories, there is only one correct standard of behavior, which is as applicable today as in Biblical times. Mrs. Eddy writes, "Children should obey their parents; insubordination is an evil, blighting the buddings of self-government."Science and Health, p. 236;
