"Protests of Truth"

There is a form of nonviolent protest that can be applied effectively to all facets of evil. Not only can it help to destroy injustice and anachronistic practices in governmental and academic affairs; it can also heal individual lives of unhappiness, aimlessness, lack, and disease. The potency of this protest is in exact proportion to our conviction that God is divine Love, the one all-inclusive Principle, or Mind, and that He governs man and the universe in justice, wisdom, and harmony.

This is not meant to imply that political and social protest, when carried out in a responsible and orderly manner, cannot be an effective tool for righting wrongs. It can be, and sometimes is. But the student of Christian Science is dedicated to proving the efficacy of spiritual power in solving humanity's problems. He utilizes a form of protest unknown to the material senses but found to be substantive, practical, usable, when revealed by Science.

It was not blind faith but scientific prayer—the realization of man's unity with God—that enabled Christ Jesus to protest against the seeming reality of disease and other human problems and to destroy them. Speaking of this truly scientific method, Mary Baker Eddy writes in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, "It is neither Science nor Truth which acts through blind belief, nor is it the human understanding of the divine healing Principle as manifested in Jesus, whose humble prayers were deep and conscientious protests of Truth,—of man's likeness to God and of man's unity with Truth and Love."
