On page 362 of Miscellaneous Writings Mary Baker Eddy writes, "We all must find shelter from the storm and tempest in the tabernacle of Spirit." Well the storm came, and although I had known of Christian Science most of my life, I was as the traveler that Mrs. Eddy refers to in an article called "An Allegory." The guide tells him, " 'And if thou strayest, listen for the mountain-horn, and it will call thee back to the path that goeth upward' " (ibid., p. 328).

The storm came in the form of a stroke, and when it happened, I turned wholeheartedly to Christian Science and had a beautiful healing. The healing took time, and fear and discouragement tried to creep in, at first one way and then another, but each time a devoted Christian Science practitioner met every phase of the problem with joy and assurance. I am grateful for her faithful prayerful work.

Soon I found myself growing stronger. Each day and with joy I was correcting my thinking, replacing wrong thinking with inspiring, and refreshing thoughts of God and His perfect creation. It turned out to be quite a battle. I had no time for self-pity. There was much work to be done. Now I am beginning to see quite clearly that this whole experience of suffering and incapacity has led me out of the valley and into "the path that goeth upward." I am now completely healed.
