A Natural Step of Progress

The morning after Jacob beheld in a dream his at-one-ment with God and his eternal inheritance, he set a stone up as a pillar and poured oil upon the top of it. Then he gratefully declared, "This stone, which I have set for a pillar, shall be God's house: and of all that thou shalt give me I will surely give the tenth unto thee." Gen. 28:22; Rightfully acknowledging the source of all good, he was willing to give to God a portion of what God had given him.

It is essential that each student of Christian Science arrive at a similar point of gratitude and become willing to bring the oil of his consecrated thought to his membership in a branch Church of Christ, Scientist. Making consecration the proof of true Christian Science growth, he finds that what he gives to God returns a hundredfold as his hidden qualities of character and talent are awakened and utilized.

To some students of Christian Science, becoming a member of a branch church is a natural, normal step in their spiritual progress; while others may postpone this growth through apathy, procrastination, or fear. This reluctance may continue unchallenged unless the individual arouses himself or is awakened by Truth to his privilege to be openly aligned with the Cause of Christian Science.
