When I was a young girl, I was desirous of entering an art exhibition. But as the entry deadline drew close, I had no inspiration for the painting. Having been a pupil in the Christian Science Sunday School and having gained a workable understanding of some of the rudiments of Christian Science, I turned to divine Mind as the only intelligence, knowing that the source of inspiration is ever operative. During the night, following conscientious study and prayer, I visualized the painting complete. When I started to transfer my thoughts to the canvas, I was in a flurry of excitement. As the work progressed, I seemed to be led, step by step, to a satisfying composition. This painting drew the first recognition from the press that I had ever received.
Always since then, in starting my work, I have prayerfully studied the textbooks of Christian Science, the King James Bible and Science, and Health by Mrs. Eddy. I have known that any talent I possess is reflected from divine Mind, and I have prayed to understand my unity with God, who is the only Mind and Soul. As years have passed and I have continued to paint with success, I am astonished at the results. The thoughts which prompt certain developments or colors flow spontaneously. The beautiful effects attained seem to be apart from any human planning. The whole process of painting has become an unfoldment. People comment on the pleasure derived from viewing my work. The light of Truth must shine through.
This assurance of divine Mind's guidance has been my mainstay for over sixty years. Four generations in our family have been constantly blessed. In Miscellaneous Writings Mrs. Eddy writes (p. 307), "God gives you His spiritual ideas, and in turn, they give you daily supplies."
