Seeking Good in God

As in times past, much of the trouble and suffering in the world today stems from mankind's futile attempt to find good from a source apart from God. Having faith in the belief that matter is the source of good, mortals seek health and happiness from the wrong standpoint and hence are confused by the enigma of material existence. This finite sense of good limits the fulfillment of good in human experience and misleadingly relegates the attainment of it to dependency upon material persons, places, and things.

Christ Jesus, our Way-shower, counseled, "Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you."  Matt. 6:33; And again, he proclaimed, "The kingdom of God cometh not with observation: neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you." Luke 17:20, 21;

Christian Science teaches that God, Spirit, is the only source of good and that the real man is His spiritual image and likeness. This man actually includes heaven, eternal good, since he is the embodiment or reflection of God's goodness. Therefore he is never truly separated from divine good because he is the very effect of the all-good cause or divine Principle, God. Good, then, is not something man obtains or gets; rather is it the spiritual substance he expresses as God's image and likeness.
