In my late teens I found myself dissatisfied with the orthodox...

In my late teens I found myself dissatisfied with the orthodox religion in which I had been brought up, and I began to search for a philosophy in which I could believe. Finding magazines on systems of mental healing and theosophy, I studied these and also spiritualism, but remained unconverted. Then I read Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy and recognized the truth for which I had been seeking. It changed my whole outlook. This took place nearly fifty years ago. I have had constant proofs of God's loving care ever since.

After my marriage my husband was healed of chronic constipation. He and his parents adopted Christian Science as their religion.

Bringing up three children gave us many opportunities to prove our faith. One Sunday afternoon our baby daughter was not well, and when I picked her up, she had convulsions. I was alone in the house and was overcome with fear, but I cried aloud, "I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust" (Ps. 91:2). The child became quiet. I put her in her cot and rushed to the telephone to call a practitioner. The one I called did not answer. I called another with the same result. Then I awoke to what I was doing. In that week's Lesson-Sermon had appeared the verse (Nah. 1:9), "What do ye imagine against the Lord? he will make an litter end: affliction shall not rise up the second time." I accepted this statement and found the child completely recovered.
