To have been raised by a mother dedicated to the teachings of Christian Science has indeed been a great help and inspiration to me. She and I were the only Scientists in the home. I am also grateful to have met a fine young man who became my husband, who soon became interested in Science as a result of our association, and who is now actively working in the movement.

While Christian Science has been a great protection physically and mentally to me, I have had physical problems and problems of personal relationship to meet. I'm particularly grateful for the peace and protection experienced when I was in an automobile accident. I was driving alone when the accident occurred and the driver's side of the car was crushed. When I got out of the car and was asked how I was, I replied, "All is well."

I did not accept any suggestion of injury, though I was having trouble breathing. My ribs were quite sore, and I couldn't raise my arm. Even before I notified my husband, I was able to contact a Christian Science practitioner, who calmed my fears and assured me I was perfect in God. I lost only one day from work, although it seemed I had cracked several ribs. A week later I was cohostess at a dance and did a great deal of baking in preparation. Also I had to make a four-hundred-mile bus trip to be with loved ones in a time of their need. Physically I seemed to suffer a setback, but through continued treatment and my own prayerful practice I was soon free of any discomfort. In two weeks all evidence of the accident was gone. It was really uplifting to realize that "what God cannot do, man need not attempt" (Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, p. 231), and to feel this healing going on.
