I feel the deepest gratitude for the honor and pleasure of being a Christian Scientist. As a youth I regularly attended a Christian Science Sunday School, where I was taught the ever-presence of divine Mind. In mathematics, the law of division can be a useful tool in solving everyday division problems only if one comprehends and knows how to apply this law correctly. So it is with the law of divine Mind. Everyday problems encountered in life can be handled adequately only by the application of divine law. A working understanding of this law is greatly enhanced by our daily preparation, such as study of the Lesson-Sermons. This practice gives a person a store of spiritual facts available for instant application.

In my several years of applying this law to many circumstances, my family and I have been protected and guided to enjoy a wonderful life. One of my most recent and dramatic proofs of God's care for His children took place on a camping trip.

Two friends of mine and I had retired to our sleeping bags inside a large tent at about eleven o'clock. The only entrance was zipped shut. At one o'clock we were awakened quite abruptly by the presence of fire. The tent was encased in flames, and the only way out was ablaze. All three of us instantly, almost by instinct, jumped up and ran to the rear wall of the tent. At this time we realized we were trapped, since the tent had a floor in it. Panic seemed to grab us immediately. The two other fellows, both non-Scientists, seemed to lose their sense of reason and in their efforts to get out ran directly into the flames.
