Reflecting Right States of Thought
One day the writer was walking with her aunt when one of her aunt's friends walked past them. The only greeting from the friend was the words, "Good pneumonia weather," accompanied by an affirmative nod of the head. Since the writer had for many years been a student in a Christian Science Sunday School, she was, quite naturally, startled at such a greeting. Besides, she really thought it pleasant to have a warm day in the middle of winter.
Students of Christian Science learn the importance of reflecting spiritually uplifting states of thought. Their religion teaches that all is God, infinite good, and His infinite and good manifestation. It reveals the fact that, in reality, man is God's spiritual expression, reflecting every quality of the divine Mind. The student knows that it is his privilege to demonstrate daily the healing effects of his religion by seeing every individual with whom he comes in contact as God's perfect child. He wants to express joy, truth, goodness, and love because these qualities of Mind bless his fellow beings in practical ways.
Many individuals do not know how to bless their friends and acquaintances. Furthermore, they are not aware of how harmful erroneous remarks may be if accepted as true. When we communicate with our fellowmen, it should be to help them, never to discourage them or induce helplessness through mental suggestion.
