Feeding the Hungry Heart
Christ Jesus, quoting the older Scriptures, said, "Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God."Matt. 4:4; The Master knew better than anyone that man's true selfhood is spiritual and that his real sustenance flows from his unity with God, infinite Love.
However, Jesus did not ignore mortals' apparent need for material food. His perfect understanding of God's limitless selfhood and the nourishment that derives from an understanding of Him enabled the Master to feed thousands of individuals in a way understandable to them—with loaves and fishes. He knew all matter to be mental phenomena, mesmeric illusion, that he could control, heal, or multiply with a word.
