We Can Maintain Our Joy

One of the several authors of the book of Psalms wrote, "I am troubled; I am bowed down greatly; I go mourning all the day long." Ps. 38:6; He was allowing evil suggestions to darken and depress his thought and rob him of his native buoyancy as the self-expression of God, the ever-joyous divine Mind. In another psalm the author, when he was mentally alert and in tune with his divine source, said to God, "Thou hast turned for me my mourning into dancing: thou has put off my sackcloth, and girded me with gladness." 30:11;

True happiness is never attained through a material sense of existence. Its source is not in material possessions or sensual indulgence. It is not dependent on being in a certain place or in the presence of another person or group of persons.

Christian Science teaches that happiness is a spiritual quality present and active in God, the infinite Soul. Radiant well-being is the very nature of divine Being, and spiritual man—your real selfhood and mine—reflects this blissful harmony and satisfaction. The real man is the full expression of all Mind's qualities, so he is actually complete, needing nothing. Mrs. Eddy writes in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures: "Mind, joyous in strength, dwells in the realm of Mind. Mind's infinite ideas run and disport themselves." Science and Health, p. 517;
