For more than forty years I was a medical nurse

For more than forty years I was a medical nurse. After my retirement my brother persuaded me to take up the study of Christian Science, although I had never seen anyone healed through relying on prayer alone. After studying for some time I decided to apply for membership in a branch Church of Christ, Scientist.

Shortly after taking this step I had an acute attack of influenza. Because I lived alone and was very weak and exhausted, the practitioner helping me thought it wise for me to enter a local Christian Science House so I could be properly taken care of.

The practitioner asked me to study "The New Birth," beginning on page 15 of Miscellaneous Writings by Mrs. Eddy. Here I found this statement: "Nothing aside from the spiritualization—yea, the highest Christianization—of thought and desire, can give the true perception of God and divine Science, that results in health, happiness, and holiness." Gradually my thought was changed from a belief of life in matter to life in Spirit, not a struggle to heal "the oldman with his deeds" (Col. 3:9) but an endeavor to bring to light the new man created in God's own likeness. I was there for four weeks, and I shall always remember with deepest gratitude the love and close attention to my every need that was bestowed on me. By the end of that time I had completely recovered my health and strength. I was a new creature. I went for long walks each day without being exhausted. I had a healthy appetite and felt happier than ever before.
