Daily Easter Gladness

Easter witnesses the glory of Life eternal made manifest in human experience. It is not restricted to a certain time of the year or to a specific date on a calendar. To Christian Scientists, Easter is a continuous rejoicing every day, for Christian Science teaches that it is the timeless assurance of the inevitable victory of good over evil, of Life over death.

Centuries ago on a hill called "Golgotha," just outside the ancient city of Jerusalem, Jesus was crucified. To the disciples and his other followers, befogged and blinded with grief, the thought of defeat must have been overwhelming. Jesus defeated! And if he were defeated, crucified, buried, unable to demonstrate over sin and pain and death, how could they be expected not to mourn and doubt and be afraid?

Then came the resurrection and the triumphant message of Jesus' victory over death and the grave. The stone had been rolled away from the tomb. "He is not here: for he is risen,"  Matt. 28:6; the angels told the faithful Marys who had come to the sepulcher to do him honor. Gloriously, triumphantly, their Master had defeated the enemy; he had won the greatest victory the world has ever known.
