RADIO PROGRAM NO. 314 - What Unites the Family?

Questioner: Many people are concerned about the way parents and children get along, or rather, the way they so often don't get along. Changing patterns of living, attractions outside the home, and the generation gap can bring differences of opinion that severely challenge a family.

Speaker: There is a basis for uniting parents and children, and it goes to the very foundation of existence. It is the basis indicated by Christ Jesus in the two opening and profound words of the Lord's Prayer (Matt. 6:9): "Our Father." This establishes a common acknowledgment that God is the Father not only of the children but of the parents.

I recall an experience of a friend of ours whose husband passed on, leaving her with six children to raise. And one of the younger ones who had had kind of rough day of discipline said, as the mother was putting him to bed that night, "You know, you're not the boss." And she said: "John, you're right. I'm not the boss. We both have the same boss, and it's God." She brought out a very important point that we want to see here—that parents have the same God or Parent that children do.
