Some of the many blessings that have come to me through a lifelong...
Some of the many blessings that have come to me through a lifelong study and practice of Christian Science are healings of sickness and pain, the overcoming of discord, discouragement and fear, guidance in human relation and business problems and in church and community work. The need for supply has always been met. Hurt feelings have melted away when I recognized them as nothing but the babblings of mortal mind. The teachings of Christian Science have enabled me to be more loving and kind and have given me a God I can love. I have been helped to rise above many of the beliefs of advancing years. For all these blessings I am most grateful.
One of the more meaningful and memorable instances of guidance occurred many years ago while I was serving as chairman of a rural school board in a district where there was considerable disagreement. A serious case of discipline occurred in one of our schools. The pupil was expelled, and the county superintendent ruled that the child could not return to school until the parents had met and discussed the problem with the school board. The case was made somewhat difficult because the parents were under the impression that the whole community was against them.
When I considered human ways for handling the case, I saw that these were unkind and unloving and would only make a bad situation worse. Then, as we are taught to do in Christian Science, I turned to God in prayer asking Him to show me what to do. An immediate answer came as though it were spoken to me: "There is only one question to be considered and that is one of obedience." Using this as the basis on which to conduct the meeting between the school board and the parents, I saw the situation settled amicably.
