Toddy Faces the Wolf
[For preschoolers]
Toddy was almost five years old. He could run very fast. But could he beat a wolf if it chased him? He was not so sure.
Then one night, when all his family was asleep, Toddy came wide awake. He thought for sure he heard a wolf, hiding in the kitchen. Toddy raced down the hall to his parents' bedroom, trying hard to beat the wolf he thought was chasing him. Now he woke up every night, heard the wolf, and raced down the hall. He was pleased that he always won his race with the wolf. But he never felt brave enough to go back to his own room by himself until it was morning, for only when the sunshine came streaming through the windows was there no wolf to be seen.
For a while Toddy didn't tell his mother and father why he was so afraid when he got up each night.
