Danny Learns to Forgive

[For children]

Danny was playing with Jon, a new friend, They had great fun tossing rocks to see who could throw the farthest. Jon threw a rock, and it hit Danny on the forehead. In tears, Danny ran to his mother and said: "I don't like Jon anymore. He hit me with a rock, and I don't want, to play with him ever again!"

Mother covered the cut on Danny's forehead with a cloth and reminded him that he had learned in Christian Science that he was God's perfect child. Danny had been taught always to turn to God whenever he was in trouble. So now he brought his Bible to his mother and asked her to read Christ Jesus' words from the Sermon on the Mount: "Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you." Matt. 5:44; Then he found this verse: "Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil." Eph. 6:11;

In his Christian Science Sunday School class Danny and his classmates had talked of God, who is Love, and of putting "on the whole armour of God." He remembered telling his mother, "When we are happy and think only good thoughts, we are putting on armor that protects us. And when we love everybody, we are covering ourselves with armor and nothing can hurt us."
