"And the word of the Lord came unto me, saying, Son of...

"And the word of the Lord came unto me, saying, Son of man, what is that proverb that ye have in the land of Israel, saying, The days are prolonged, and every vision faileth? Tell them therefore, Thus saith the Lord God; I will make this proverb to cease, and they shall no more use it as a proverb in Israel; but say unto them, The days are at hand, and the effect of every vision" (Ezek. 12:21-23).

This passage from the Bible held a healing message for me in February of 1965 when I applied for the renewal of my driver's permit. When taking the eye test, I opened my handbag to get my glasses; but something told me I didn't need them, and so I closed the handbag. The perfect "effect of every vision" was indeed at hand. I saw that spiritual vision brought dominion over the limited sight of the so-called physical senses, and I passed the examination with ease. The requirement of regular glasses or contact lenses which had been noted on the previous permit was dropped.

I had known for some time that I was seeing more clearly, and this was proof of it. However, I was serving as Second Reader in a Church of Christ, Scientist, at the time, and it was not until four months later that I felt free to fulfill that duty without glasses. But the Sunday morning came when I was able to echo the words of Christ Jesus (John 17:1), "Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee." And I took off the glasses. It was a heavenly experience. I saw as I had never seen before at the desk. The whole church was illumined. Everything and everybody looked so beautiful! The healing recalled to me Mrs. Eddy's description of her own experience (Retrospection and Introspection, p. 73), "The material human concept grew beautifully less as I floated into more spiritual latitudes and purer realms of thought."
