Joyous Involvement
In recent years there have been a number of reports that witnesses to some violent struggle have refused to take corrective action. Despite almost elbow-to-elbow contact with attempted robbery, attack, and even murder, these persons have watched impassively, not even endeavoring to notify the proper law enforcement agencies.
Various excuses have been offered to explain this refusal to become invoked. One is concern over being injured; another is fear of reprisal. Some people even suggest that the basic reason is reluctance to become caught up in the workings of the law itself.
Many problems result from the failure to help another. Crime spreads unchecked, selfishness and callousness are encouraged, and community needs are neglected. Certainly the thoughtful citizen seeks the proper solution to such problems as these.
