Clad in Christly Garments

A man temporarily unemployed sought help from a Christian Science practitioner. This newcomer to Science said that what he needed most was a new suit to wear for job interviews. "Let us first see you clad in Christly garments," the practitioner said to him. "Then whatever you need will appear humanly." She went on to explain that the garments of the Christ, Truth, are the qualities of divine Mind, which man reflects; they are garments of praise, expressing the one infinite, eternal God, omnipresent Life, Love, Spirit, and Truth.

She also reminded the man of the words of the prophet, "I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness." Isa. 61:10; Soon thereafter the man received a fine suit as a gift, and a new position likewise opened up for him.

These perfect and immutable truths, when applied to any human situation, evidence themselves in the meeting of every human need, whether it be for clothing, food, shelter, or healing. The newcomer had been receptive to the Christ, Truth, and the provision of Love for its idea, man, had been made manifest humanly. Mrs. Eddy explains clearly, "Christ, Truth, gives mortals temporary food and clothing until the material, transformed with the ideal, disappears, and man is clothed and fed spiritually."
